Jerusalem Chapel

Making Reproducing Disciples of Jesus Christ

Our Purpose Statement

"Making Reproducing Disciples of Jesus Christ!"

Reproducing Disciples? What does that mean?

Simply stated, Jerusalem Chapel focuses its goals and resources to bring about:

1) The creation of personal relationships between individuals and Jesus Christ.

2) The dedication to provide avenues to learn about the Bible,
to learn how to understand it and how to apply it to your daily life.

3) The opportunities for young and old alike to serve in their local church body,
local community and as far around the globe as God might provide opportunity!

Faith Statement

The Triune God
We believe in the only true God - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. These three are one - the Father in the Son, the Son in the Father, and the Holy Ghost equal in essence or being with both. This triune God not only created the heavens and the earth and everything in them, but sustains, governs, protects and supports it all.

Jesus Christ, the Son
We believe that Jesus Christ is both God and man. He became a man by the power of the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary and was born of her. He is the Savior and mediator of the whole human race, if they accept with full faith in Christ the grace offered in him. We believe that Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us, was buried, arose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now sits on the right hand of God interceding for us. He will come again at the last day to judge the living and the dead.

The Holy Spirit, Comforter and Guide
We believe that the Holy Ghost is equal in being with the Father and the Son. He comforts the faithful and guides them into all truth.

The Church
We believe in the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life.

The Holy Bible and Salvation
We believe that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God. It contains the only true way of salvation. Every true Christian is bound to acknowledge and receive it, with the influence of the Spirit of God, as the only rule and guide. We believe that without faith in Jesus Christ, true repentance, forgiveness of sins, and following after Christ, no one can be a true Christian.

The Salvation Message
We also believe that what is contained in the Bible - the fall in Adam and redemption through Jesus Christ - should be preached throughout the world.

The Christian Ordinance
We believe that the ordinances - baptism, and the remembrance of the sufferings and death of Christ - are to be used and practiced by all Christian churches. We also believe that all of God's children are to practice these ordinances, but that the manner in which they practice them should always to be left to the judgment and understanding of the individual. Whether or not to practice footwashing is also to be left to the individual. No minister should, either in public or in private, criticize any of his brethren whose judgment and understanding in these respects differs from his own. Whoever does shall be considered a traducer of his brethren, and shall be answerable for it.

Our Ministry

Then: Jerusalem Chapel's origins date back to 1854 when it was one of several churches included in a circuit touching those in and around Augusta County. The original structure was built sometime around 1900 and two other additions were added - one in the 1950's and one in the 1970's. These early structures were destroyed by fire, however, in May 2006 due to an electrical malfunction in the "old" sanctuary. The current structure was built as an "addition" in 1990. It houses our sanctuary, fellowship hall, kitchen, nursery, classrooms and library. The church office and senior pastor's study were affected by the fire, but are now being assessed for reconstruction. The church facility is currently used for two morning worship hours each Sunday morning as well as hosting a variety of community and church-related events such as concerts, weddings and community outreach. Many pastors have served the fellowship of Jersualem Chapel through the years and we are proud to introduce you to our current pastoral staff.

Now: Pastor Denny Sites is our Senior Pastor, and he has been serving with us since March 1984. Pastor Todd Yoder is our Associate Pastor of Youth and Parents, and he has been with us since September 2003. In October 2007 we welcomed Pastor Matt Hann onto our pastoral team as the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care & Worship. Our pastors are men who are constantly striving to find effective ways to lead the congregation of the Chapel as well as finding creative ways to touch the lives of individuals within our community. Our goal together is to work together to grow in our spiritual walk personally and then to reach out to others with the love of Christ in practical ways.

One Body United

We are a part of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ Denomination whose National Headquarters are based out of Huntington, Indiana. We are a evangelical denomination whose goal is to reach the lost with the salvation message of Jesus Christ locally and globally. We are a relatively small denomination, but are located throughout the US and many foreign countries.
