Jerusalem Chapel

Making Reproducing Disciples of Jesus Christ

Special Interests - Special Events!

While many of the activities and ministries we provide to our church family and community are predictable in their scheduling and frequency, there are many other events that take place throughout the year that "fill in the gaps" for those special interests that might peek someone's interest or provide them with an outlet to invite a friend to join them. Also, with summer comes a camping experience for kids or short-term mission experiences which are aimed at providing another unique way to provide for the growth and encouragement of our kids and adults. The below is not an exhaustive list by any means, but just a glimpse of what is happening (or has just taken place) here at the Chapel. Maybe you'll be able to join us sometime too!

"Free" Summer Camp!

Whether accompanying a young child on the campus (in the evenings) or dropping your child off for a week of overnight camp, you and your camper are sure to find Rhodes Grove just the beginning of a wonderful camping experience and opportunity to meet new friends while also growing in your knowledge of the Bible.

Camper Policy
1) Jerusalem Chapel Camper’s Fund was established to send kids to Rhodes Grove camp. The Chapel will pay only basic fees. Extras, specialty camp’s increased fee, late fees or cancellations will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Note: If a registered camper decides not to go to camp, it is the responsibility of the parent to reimburse the Camper Fund the full registration fee.

2) Jerusalem Chapel will pay 100% for all "Chapel Kids" providing they help with three or more fundraisers. A Chapel Kid who helps with only two fundraisers will receive 66% of his basic fees paid by the Chapel (one fundrasier – 33%). A “Chapel Kid” is one who attends worship, Sunday School, FBI, SWAT or CIA regularly for three months prior to camp registration deadlines and is a full-time student when school is in session. Only one activity will be supported per individual each year.

3) Camp attendees outside the church that help with fundraisers will have their basic fees paid for according to the following schedule: One fundraiser=1/4 payment; Two fundraisers=1/2 payment; Three fundraisers=3/4; Four fundraisers = 100% payment by Chapel.

4) A single representative for a camp attendee is allowed to work in place of the participant at a given fundraiser provided they inform the Camp Secretary prior to the fundraiser whom they are working for. We welcome extra help for fundraisers, but only one individual can get credit for each prospective camp attendee.

5) Financially needy or special exceptions will be referred to a committee consisting of the Camp Secretary, Lay Leader and Pastor.

6) Each parent is responsible to make arrangements for the transportation of their child to and from camp. Parents are urged to carpool if that arrangement is acceptable to all parties involved.

7) All monies should be given to the Camp Secretary including specialty fees, late fees or specific payment a minimum of one week prior to the departure for camp.

8) For those who choose not to participate in fundraisers equaling full payment of the base fee, the balance of the camp fee (1/3 or 1/4, etc.) will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian and will be required at check-in on the first day of camp.

Directions to Camp
Take I-81 north to Exit 3 (Molly Pitcher Hwy). Turn north (left) at the end of the ramp onto Rt. 11 (Molly Pitcher Hwy) through Greencastle. From the stop light in Greencastle, continue north on Rt.11 for about 3 miles. Look for Mrs. Gibbles Restaurant on the left. Turn right onto the next road - Kauffman Road and go about half a mile through railroad underpass. Bear to the right at Y in the road. After a couple hundred yards, the entrance of RGC is on the right.

Rhodes Grove is an affiliate campground of the United Brethren in Christ Church. Rhodes Grove offers a variety of activities to encourage and challenge the youngest of children through those in their teen years. Campers are encouraged to learn more about God's Word, to experience new activities, learn to know new friends and possibly even learn a new skill or two - such as archery, horsemanship, swimming, rocketry and on and on. Opportunities are also available for teen assistance on staff (junior or senior counselor, kitchen crew, work crew) or adult volunteers (counselor, kitchen crew, work crew, etc.). To contact the campground directly call: 717-375-4162 or visit the "official" Rhodes Grove website at www.rhodesgrove.com! The campground is approximately 2 1/2 hours from the Staunton area and is located in a secluded area of acreage. Directions to the camp are listed below.

Women's Events

Bible Studies

Mum's - Mums Uplifting Mums will be concluding their study in May. Additional studies will be held in the summer or fall. If you'd like more information about this small group environment for mothers of preschoolers, please contact Amy Yoder.

Digging Deeper - Annette Sites is leading a summer study on the Book of Mark. The class will meets every other week.

Helping Hands - Brenda Cook leads this study/service group who meet on Monday nights. A new study began in January. The group typically meets one Monday night a month for Bible Study and then once more on a Monday night for a service project in our community. There is an optional "fellowship" gathering most months as well where we enjoy splurging on a dinner or dessert out on the town. Ladies are welcome to join in this study at any time.

Discipleship - A class is currently underway with a great group of gals, and we have people on the waiting list to begin a new class as well. We need one or two more interested individuals to begin a new section. Discipleship is an intensive Bible study which partners up with ministry projects in the church and community. If you're ready to grow deeper in your understanding of the Bible, your walk with Christ and develop some meaningful friendships with other ladies, we invite you to contact Annette Sites to learn more about possibilities for the fall.

"Girlfriends"

Each month you are invited to a night of fun and fellowship. Here's what we have planned in the near future.

Family Swim Party! - Join us on Monday, July 7, from 6-9 p.m. at Montgomery Hall Park & Pool. It's a free evening of food and fun. We'll provide the food, and you just come and join in the fun! The pool at Montgomery Hall is located right by the Staunton Park & Rec office alongside a beautiful playground area along with shady sitting areas. This more cozy atmosphere is sure to provide a great evening of relaxation, friendship and fun. Lifeguards will be on duty, but we also ask that all children/youth be accompanied by a parents or grandparent throughout the evening. RSVP by calling the church office so we can be sure to have enough food for everyone. We hope you can join us!

For more information about any of these events, please contact the church office at 337-6411. We'd love to have you join our group of Girlfriends whenever you can!

WMF - Women's Missionary Fellowship

Monthly Meetings! We normally meet on the first Thursday of the month in the church fellowship hall at 7:15 p.m. We look forward to lots more opportunities to share with each other in 2008 and to encourage our missionary friends who are working all over the globe! For more details, please contact Linda Lovegrove, Emily Griffin or the church office.

Men's Ministry

Men's Bible Studies

During the summer, we have two studies happening. George Etling is leading a group of men through a study on the Book of John (which began in May), and Ronnie Andrews and Jeff Eavey are team teaching a study on relevant men's issues and seeing what God has to say about them. George's class meets on Tuesday nights and Ronnie/Jeff's class will meet on Thursday nights (beginning mid-June). To learn more about either of these classes, please contact the class leader or call the chuch office at 337-6411.

Men's Brotherhood

This group of men meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the church library. Their focus is geared toward raising funds for local and foreign mission projects. What projects are scheduled for 2008?

Chicken BBQ's are typically held 6-8 times per year. This is mostly a Saturday morning project, and men of all ages are welcome to get in on the experience.

Fundraising Buffets are held twice a year - once in the Spring and Fall. This year's fall buffet is on the books and details will be posted later this summer. Whether you can cook or not, there's a spot to get involved and pitch in and help - early or late in the day!

Men At Work!

Pork Pull - Typically, the church holds a "Homecoming" Service and meal on the fourth Sunday of June. If we're able to have a "pork roast" on the Saturday prior, we're always in need of help in the afternoon as we take the pig off of the grill and get busy making it ready for eating the following day (plus, you might just get to sample a taste or two!). Note: For 2008, we can use extra hands on Saturday, June 21, to help prepare this delicious roast hog.

Action Packed Events! Pastor Todd is quite often looking for men (young or old) to help chaperone events with the youth ministry. Activities in the past have included such events as: Hamburg Bass Pro Trip, Paintballing Trip, Amusement Park Trip, Ski Trip, etc. While the heart of the ministry to youth is connecting with the kids and sharing the love of Christ with them - there are quite often some really awesome avenues of fun that go right alongside the experience. Contact Pastor Todd if you'd like to learn more about what possibilities are available in 2008!

If you have any questions about these events, please contact the church office, and we'll try to get you all the information you'll need to get involved.
